Functions of the Wheel Outer Rim

 

1. Securing the Tire
The outer rim works together with the inner rim to "clamp" the tire bead onto the wheel rim, creating a tight mechanical connection. During vehicle operation, the tire is subjected to centrifugal forces, lateral forces, and impact from bumps. The outer rim helps prevent the tire from detaching from the rim.
