Rim installation requires special tools.
1. Tire deflating
If you need to replace the rim, completely release the tire pressure (by removing the valve core) to prevent tire pressure from pushing out the rim components and causing a safety accident.
2. Component positioning and assembly
First, place the seat ring firmly into the rim barrel, then install the rim, ensuring a tight fit between the rim and seat ring with no noticeable gaps. Finally, install the locking ring, using a special pressing tool to press it into the groove. Do not strike the locking ring with a sledgehammer, as this can easily deform the ring and cause localized stress concentration on the rim.
3. Tire inflation
Before inflation, ensure that the rim and tire are properly aligned. When inflating, first inflate to 50% of the rated pressure, let it sit for 5 minutes, and then check for even contact between the rim and tire. Then, inflate to the rated pressure. According to the tire manual, the typical pressure for wide-body mining vehicle tires is 8-12 bar. Do not over-inflate, as this can cause excessive radial pressure on the rim.
How to Properly Use Wide-Body Mining Vehicle Rims
- Do not overload: The rim's load capacity must match the vehicle's rated load. Overloading can cause the rim to bear radial loads far exceeding the design value, leading to plastic deformation of the cylinder and a sudden increase in weld stress.
- Ensure smooth starting and braking: Mining roads are often gravelly and sloped. Avoid sudden acceleration when starting and sudden braking. Sudden braking can cause localized overheating of the rim. It is recommended to use a retarder to assist braking and reduce the frequency of service braking.
- Avoiding road obstacles: If you cannot avoid raised rocks or deep potholes while driving, slow down and drive slowly to prevent the instantaneous impact load generated by the tires passing over the obstacle from being transferred to the rim, which could cause localized deformation or cracking of the rim.
