Steel Truck Rim

Steel truck rims are specifically designed for lorries (including heavy-duty lorries and goods vehicles), manufactured from steel to offer exceptional strength, durability and load-bearing capacity, as well as excellent impact resistance. They are suited to demanding conditions such as long-distance heavy-load transport and construction site operations. Being cost-effective and easy to maintain, they help to significantly reduce operational and after-sales costs whilst maintaining a basic level of driving comfort, and are widely used in logistics, construction and related sectors.

Description

Compared with truck rims made from other materials such as aluminium alloy, steel truck rims have become the mainstream choice for all types of trucks thanks to their core characteristics of being suitable for heavy loads, durable and economical.

The advantages of steel truck rims

The advantages of steel truck rims are primarily evident in the following five key areas, which are well-suited to the demands of heavy-duty truck use and complex operating conditions

1. Greater load-bearing capacity, suitable for all load scenarios

The steel truck rims are manufactured from high-strength Q355B/Q460 alloy steel, which undergoes a dual heat treatment process of normalising and tempering. Their tensile, compressive and impact resistance far exceed those of aluminium alloy rims, enabling them to easily meet the demands of long-term heavy-duty operation, hill climbing and driving on rough terrain. They are resistant to deformation and cracking, effectively eliminating safety hazards under heavy-load conditions. Parameters are precisely matched to different load scenarios: Light trucks (load capacity 1–5 tonnes) are suited to 8–10 mm thick steel rims, with a tensile strength of ≥500 MPa and a yield strength of ≥345 MPa; Medium and heavy-duty lorries (payload 4–12 tonnes) require 10–12 mm thickened rims, with a tensile strength of ≥650 MPa and a yield strength of ≥450 MPa; Trailers (payload 13 tonnes and above) require 12–14 mm reinforced rims, with a tensile strength of ≥800 MPa and a yield strength of ≥600 MPa.

2. Exceptional durability, suitable for demanding operating conditions

The steel rims offer excellent resistance to impact and wear; they are unlikely to suffer scratches or dents when subjected to the stone impacts, road friction and loading/unloading collisions commonly encountered in lorry transport. The surface features dual protection via electrophoretic coating and powder coating, achieving over 120 hours in salt spray testing-far exceeding the industry standard of 80 hours. In harsh environments such as mud, water, acids, alkalis, rain and snow, annual wear is ≤0.3mm, with a service life of up to 8–10 years. This represents an extension of over 40% compared to aluminium alloy rims (5–6 years), eliminating the need for frequent replacement, reducing operational and maintenance costs, and making them suitable for complex outdoor transport environments.

3. Significant cost advantages and excellent value for money

The cost of steel raw materials is more than 60% lower than that of aluminium alloy. A single steel wheel rim for a light commercial vehicle costs approximately 300–500 yuan, which is just one-third of the price of an aluminium alloy rim of the same specification (800–1,200 yuan); For medium and heavy-duty lorries and trailers, the unit price of a steel wheel rim ranges from 800 to 1,500 yuan, representing a saving of over 50% on procurement costs compared to aluminium alloy rims, making them ideal for bulk purchasing by logistics companies. Furthermore, under a direct-from-manufacturer supply model, the cost-effectiveness of steel lorry wheel rims is even more pronounced, enabling significant reductions in procurement and vehicle maintenance costs for logistics and freight companies.

4. Easy to maintain and highly reliable in emergencies

Damaged steel rims can be repaired through welding and straightening processes, eliminating the need for complete replacement. Repair costs range from just 50 to 200 yuan, and the restored performance can reach over 85% of that of a new rim; in contrast, damaged aluminium alloy rims cannot be repaired and must be replaced entirely, with the cost of replacing a single rim doubling. This is particularly relevant for emergency repairs required during long-distance, heavy-load journeys.

5. Widely compatible and highly versatile

Steel rims can be flexibly adjusted in terms of specifications and thickness to suit different truck models (light-duty, heavy-duty and trailers), accommodating tyres of varying load capacities and sizes. Whether for short-haul delivery or long-distance heavy-load transport, there is a suitable model available. Steel rims are available in a full range of sizes from 15 to 24.5 inches: light-duty trucks are suited to 15–17.5-inch rims, medium and heavy-duty trucks to 19.5–22.5-inch rims, and trailers to 22.5–24.5-inch rims.
