Heavy equipment wheel rims bear heavy loads and harsh working conditions. Long-term operation will lead to various failures, affecting equipment safety and working efficiency. Anqiang Company sorts out common rim faults and corresponding solutions based on field service experience.
1
Rim Deformation
- Failure cause:Overloading, hitting hard obstacles during operation, long-time driving on uneven ground. The rim structure is stressed beyond its tolerance range, resulting in bending or out-of-round deformation.
- Solution:Check rim roundness regularly. Minor deformation needs immediate load reduction and inspection. Severe deformation cannot be repaired and must be replaced. Avoid overloading and impact on rough roads.
2
Crack on Rim
- Failure cause:Fatigue stress accumulation after long service time; welding defects on the rim; repeated impact. Cracks often appear on bolt holes, rim edges and welding positions.
- Solution:Carry out visual inspection and flaw detection periodically. Tiny surface cracks can be assessed by technical staff. If cracks extend to the main stress area, replace the rim directly. Do not use cracked rims to prevent sudden breakage.
3
Bolt Hole Damage
- Failure cause:Uneven torque during bolt installation; frequent disassembly and assembly; long-term vibration loosening, which causes hole wall wear, elongation or cracking.
- Solution:Tighten wheel bolts according to standard torque values. Check bolt tightness before starting work. Damaged bolt holes cannot bear load stably, replace the rim when holes are elongated or cracked.
4
Rust and Corrosion
- Failure cause:Long exposure to moisture, mud, chemical residues in mining and construction sites. Corrosion thins the rim metal wall, reducing structural strength.
- Solution:Clean mud and attachments on rims regularly. Repair surface rust in time. If corrosion causes obvious thinning of the rim wall, replace it. Keep rim surface dry as much as possible.
5
Air Leak at Rim Seal Position
- Failure cause:Rim flange wear, sealing ring aging, foreign matter stuck on the joint surface between rim and tire.
- Solution:Remove the tire and clean the contact surface. Replace aging sealing rings. Check flange wear. If flange has grooves or deformation, replace the rim.
Most wheel rim failures come from overloading, impact, insufficient daily inspection and non-standard maintenance. Operators need to carry out routine checks. Once abnormal conditions are found, stop using the equipment for inspection. Anqiang provides heavy equipment wheel rims and technical support for customers in construction, mining and earthmoving industries.
